As we officially celebrate the beginning of the opening weekend, the first batch of numbers is rolling out. According to Variety, A Star is Born grossed a total of $4.6 million from the previews that were held ahead of the October 5th official release date.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the film previews grossed a total of $1.4 million while the Thursday showings totalled $3.2 million. Variety estimates that the film is heading for a $45 million opening weekend gross even though Warner Bros is estimating $35 million. It is highly common for studios to downplay their projections for films.
The film’s main competition, Venom is predicted to top the box office charts this weekend with A Star is Born following very closely behind. According to Variety, in terms of critical reception, A Star is Born is topping the list and is benefiting from positive word of mouth while Venom is leaving much to be desired.
