Award season has officially begun, meaning that the growing community of film critics to do what they do to shape and shift the Oscar race. The National Board of Review names their top ten films of the year, along with announcing winners for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Breakthrough Performance and Directorial Debut.
There are no nominees for these awards, just winners. Between 2000 and 2017, only two films that were named by the National Board of Review did not get a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars.
